Common questions

FAQ

Which vehicles does this service cover?

PAD programmes spare smart key fobs for modern stop-start vehicles — push-button start cars or flip-key cars where the blade folds away and the car starts electronically. If your car has a traditional metal key that you turn directly in the ignition barrel to start it, this service does not apply.

Do I need my existing key for this to work?

Yes, a fully working current key or fob is required. PAD programmes an additional fob alongside your existing one. This is not a lost-key or all-keys-lost service. If you have no working key at all, you need a specialist auto locksmith.

Will the new fob have the same functions as my original?

For supported vehicles the spare fob will lock, unlock, and open the boot. Additional functions depend on the original key specification for your vehicle. PAD will confirm what to expect for your specific car before the job.

What ID do I need?

Your existing working key or fob, V5C logbook, and a valid UK driving licence. For pre-purchase visits at a seller's address, the seller's full name and contact details will be recorded by PAD before any work begins. PAD reserves the right to decline any job where ownership cannot be confirmed.

Can this be added to a pre-purchase inspection?

Yes. If PAD is already on site for a pre-purchase check and the vehicle is a compatible stop-start or push-button car with a working key present, a spare fob can be programmed during the same visit at no extra travel cost.
