Don't rely on the reg check alone

DVLA + HPI tells you the paperwork. A physical pre-purchase inspection tells you what the car's computer knows — cleared fault codes, hidden battery degradation, electrical faults. Combine both for the full picture.

Common questions

Reg check questions.
Short answers.

The HPI check is processed manually by PAD — usually same day during working hours (weekday evenings 5:30–9pm / weekends 9am–6pm). Pay via Square, provide reg + email at checkout, and the report lands in your inbox as a PDF. For urgent viewings, WhatsApp first and we'll do our best.
DVLA tells you what the car is — make, model, MOT, tax. That's free. HPI tells you what's happened to it — finance, write-off, stolen, mileage history. That costs £6 because HPI providers charge PAD per check. DVLA is a basic sanity check; HPI is essential before spending real money on any used car.
Data comes directly from the DVLA's official Vehicle Enquiry Service — same source the DVLA uses itself. That said, the DVLA can have occasional lag (recent MOT tests can take 24 hours to appear). For absolute certainty on MOT, cross-reference with the official GOV.UK MOT history tool.
Yes — if PAD's HPI provider returns no data for the reg you provided (very rare, usually only on cars fresh out of the factory or with DVLA registration errors), PAD refunds the £6 in full via Square. We'll always contact you before issuing a refund.
For the DVLA check: just the reg plate. For the HPI check: reg plate and a working email address — Square will ask for both during checkout. No ID, no account, no phone number needed. We only use your email to deliver the report.
